A BIG lesson from hating traveling

Picture of the actual eclipse in all it's pixelated phone picture glory

I hate traveling.

I know. Sue me.

So you can imagine the typical dream
of being a "digital nomad" doesn't entice me.

But that's the freedom I've figured out:
. . . not everything is for you.

Some time ago I had the opportunity
to go on a trip out of state to see the eclipse.

(Remember that?)

It was 5 hours of

Constant.

Traffic.

As I sat in the passenger seat
after just switching off with my brother

I was questioning what the hek I was doing here.

And was this droning of car engines
ringing in my ears worth
the final destination?

The answer was…

(Obviously!!!)

Not really.

Don't get me wrong!

I love hanging out with my siblings.

I enjoyed the bragging rights

Telling people for weeks

"I saw the eclipse!"

I loved the little adventures and misadventures
when we finally got there.

But.

The pain of the journey still stung.

Old memories of going by plane as a kid returned

(Not to mention hearing other people's horror stories)

Let's just say it leaves a bad taste.

And maybe that's not you!

(maybe I just need to fly first class?)

So I get it.

I'm a little different.

But it doesn't mean I'm wrong.

You can't deny any of my complaints.

You can only say that to you

The "pain" is worth it.

That's just it.

"To you"

"To me"

It's all subjective.

And realizing that not everything is for you

Is so freaking FREEING!

You might hate video making
You might hate cold DMing for prospects
You might hate writing long-winded newsletters

>.>

But after you've given it a try
Proved to yourself that it's not for you
You'll soon discover the stuff that you do like

And THAT is the name of the game.

Discovery.

Of you.

Love it or hate it.

I have to admit traveling is a goal for many.

But it doesn't have to be my goal.

Find your own goal.

Nobody else's!

And be okay

With turning your back

On the mainstream status quo.

Thanks for reading!

And I'd love to know, what common public "sweetheart" do you hate?

  1. Who says we all have to conform? Sometimes, the most liberating thing is realizing that not doing something is actually a choice.
